Random Team Draw

Two jobs that are really one. "Split these 24 kids into four teams" and "draw these 12 people against the 12 teams in our pool" are the same shuffle, pointed in different directions — so this does both, and the split deals round-robin rather than slicing the list into blocks, which is why ten people across three teams come out 4/3/3 instead of 4/4/2. The part that matters is that a draw is only worth doing in public. Every result carries the time it was drawn and a seed, and re-running with that seed reproduces the draw exactly — so "do it again, I missed it" has an answer that is not "trust me". Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is stored; it all happens in your browser.

Questions people ask

How do I split a list of people into even teams?

Paste or type the names, one per line, choose how many teams, and press Draw. Names are shuffled and then dealt out one at a time, so the teams differ by at most one person — ten names across three teams gives 4, 3 and 3. Press Draw again for a completely new shuffle.

Is the draw actually random?

Yes. It uses your browser’s cryptographic randomness to pick a seed, then a Fisher-Yates shuffle — the one that gives every ordering an equal chance, rather than the sort-by-random trick that quietly favours some orders. The seed is printed on the sheet so the draw can be reproduced and checked.

Can I draw people against a list of teams?

Yes — switch to "Assign to a list". Put the people on the left and whatever they are being drawn against on the right: NFL teams, golfers, horses, tournament slots. Each person is paired with one entry. If there are more people than entries the extras are listed under "Not drawn" rather than silently dropped.

Can somebody check the draw later?

That is what the seed is for. The sheet records the time and the seed, and entering the same seed produces the identical draw — which is the honest answer when somebody who was not in the room asks whether it was fair.

What is a Blind Draw pool?

A pool where participants buy in and are randomly assigned a team rather than picking one — common for NFL playoffs, March Madness and the Masters. This tool does the draw on paper; a Blind Draw contest does it for you, emails everybody what they drew, and tracks the payouts.

Want us to run it for you?

We handle the selling, the collecting, the chasing and the scoring — numbers draw themselves, winners are worked out from the real scoreboard, and everyone can see the board on their phone. You keep 100% of what you raise.
