Draft Room
Build your team. Own your draft.
A full season-long draft engine for any pool of names. Load the real NFL or MLB roster and draft actual players — or bring your own list of names. Run a live snake draft or a budget auction — together in one sitting or stretched over days with overnight pauses and on-the-clock emails. Members build ranked prospect boards, draft on the clock, vote on picks, and score all season. NFL leagues auto-score every week from real box scores (PPR, half-PPR or standard) — true fantasy football with zero spreadsheet. Keepers carry year to year. An optional Death Pool flavor lets you draft famous people and score when they pass — Wikidata-checked, admin-confirmed, with a tombstone scoreboard.

How it runs
Draft Room, start to finish.
01
Create the league
Name it, set roster size, keepers, the player pool (open or pre-loaded), and how picks are approved. Pick the Death Pool flavor if you want death-tracking.
02
Invite & draft
Teams sign up (with an optional cap that auto-closes), name & brand their team, and build a ranked prospect list. Run the live room — snake or auction, in one session or over days.
03
Score the season
NFL leagues auto-score weekly from real box scores (PPR/half/standard); or award points from your own scoring categories (or auto death-detection). Standings update live and keepers carry to next season.
Licensing
A licensed module, not a monthly tier.
Draft Room is licensed per league as an annual subscription — it renews yearly and you can cancel any time. NFL fantasy scoring is built in; the Death Pool is an optional add-on on top.

The complete guide
How a Draft Room works.
A draft & keeper league lets your group draft any pool of names — athletes, celebrities, anything — onto teams, then score events all season and carry keepers year to year. It’s the engine behind fantasy leagues, celebrity drafts and death pools. Here’s how it works.
What is a draft & keeper league?
Members draft names onto their teams, the league scores real-world events by rules you set, and standings update all season. “Keeper” means you can protect a few names to carry into next season, so leagues build rivalries and history year over year. Because you supply the pool of names, it works for far more than fantasy football.
Snake draft vs. auction draft
Pick the draft format that fits your group:
| Snake draft | Auction draft | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Take turns; order reverses each round | Bid a budget on each name |
| Roster cost | Equal — a pick each round | Salary cap — spend wisely |
| Feel | Fast and simple | Strategic; stars cost more |
Run it live in a draft room, or take your time with an extended draft that runs over days with on-the-clock notifications.
Scoring your way
- Flat scoring: every event is worth the same.
- Age-weighted scoring: rarer or longer-odds outcomes pay more.
- Custom scoring: define exactly what an “event” is worth for your league.
Keepers & multiple seasons
Carry a set number of names from one season to the next, so good drafting compounds and your league develops history. You control how many keepers each team gets and how they roll over.
Run your own draft & keeper league
Draft any pool of names, score all season, and keep your studs year to year.
The Death Pool add-on
An optional Death Pool add-on turns the draft into the classic celebrity death pool: teams draft public figures and score when a drafted person passes away, detected and dated automatically so you’re not refereeing the news. It’s a long-running party-game format — and a darkly popular one — handled tastefully and hands-off.
Running it the easy way
ChooseASquare runs the draft room, the clock, scoring and keepers for you, and the league is licensed per league as an annual subscription (renews yearly, cancel anytime) rather than a monthly tier. Prefer a weekly contest? See Pick’Em or a last-one-standing Survivor pool.
FAQ
Draft Room, answered.
What is Draft Room?+
A general season-long draft engine: build teams, draft a pool of names onto rosters, and score points as events happen through the season. Protect keepers and run it again next year. It’s far more than a death pool — that’s just one optional flavor. If a celebrity death pool (a “dead pool” or “ghoul pool”) IS what you came for, that mode is fully supported and has its own guide at /playbook/celebrity-death-pool.
Snake or auction? Live or over several days?+
Your choice. Run a classic snake draft or a budget auction, and run it live in one session or as an “extended” draft that stretches over days — with overnight pauses and an email to each owner when they’re on the clock.
How does drafting actually work?+
Open the live room. Each team picks when it’s on the clock (or you pick for them), one-tap from their ranked prospect list or by searching. Optionally turn on 👍/👎 notability voting or commissioner approval for each pick. A timer auto-picks the top available prospect if someone’s away.
How do I score it?+
Build your own scoring categories (e.g. “Win +10”, “Eliminated −5”) and award points through the season — standings update live. Death pools can use automatic Wikidata death-detection with age-weighted or bracketed scoring instead.
How is it priced?+
It’s a licensed module — an annual per-league subscription (renews yearly, cancel anytime). It isn’t part of the standard monthly tiers.
What’s the Death Pool flavor?+
An optional flavor where you draft famous people and score when someone passes away. Rostered names are checked automatically against public records (Wikidata) a few times a day, every death is admin-confirmed before points apply, and a tombstone “graveyard” scoreboard shows each team’s hits. Private by default, no cash prizes.
Do keepers carry between seasons?+
Yes. At each new season, teams protect up to your keeper limit from last year’s roster; everyone else returns to the free-agent pool for the draft.
